>A knitters advent shawl

>I found this by accident on Raverly but thought others might like it too it is a shawl that is done in knit.  It is a advent calender piece (sampler) so to speak.  I have not started one so I didn’t have a photo to post but here are lots of others posted here for you to see.  Oh did I mention it is a free pattern in English and German.  This is what is known as a KAL a  Knit A Long.  Meaning lots of people are doing this at once with you all over the world and there is a forum to discuss it and ask questions.  So if you get stuck you have help  a great place for a beginner ( but please know the basics first but still a beginner) to start as
if you get stuck you can ask for help from lots who are working out the same patterns.
Must be a pretty good pattern with this many already making it

>Teachers crochet gifts

>two done
My children and I have started to make some crocheted bookmarks for teachers and friends and people of that sort for Christmas this is the start of the project.  2 done and 1/2 of another about 50+ more to go.  Do not know if we will actually get them all done but it is worth a try any way.  If you want to make them to the pattern link is above from a lovely lady who made the pattern  and posted the pattern on her blog.  Easy pattern to follow.  If you noticed the one that is half done is much wider than the two done ones.  The two that are done are in size 20 thread and the one that is half done is in size 10 thread but I am using the same size hook with all of them, a size 5 steel hook.

2 and half of another

>How too: Grow your own Snowflakes

>This is something we did in Science class this year thought you might have fun doing it too.
supplies

  • borax
  • pipe cleaners
  • boiling water
  • food coloring
  • container to hold solution
  • string

Grow your very own pretty snowflakes for your windows. The kids will enjoy this and think it so cool plus they get a little science lesson out of it too, show your children how crystals grow.

Its glittering crystals form when the pipe-cleaner snowflake form is submerged into a solution made of borax dissolved in boiling water with food coloring. As the water cools, the borax forms crystals that attach to the fuzzy hairs of the pipe-cleaners.

Grow your own Snowflake
How-To
  1. Twist three 5-inch pieces of pipe cleaner together to form a snowflake you can make them longer for a bigger flake but it means more solution and a bigger container to hold it in
  2. then add a 1 1/2-inch piece to each point: if making a larger flake make lots of these spikes coming off of the main points remember snow flakes are symmetrical
  3. Tie the flake with the string to the stick ideas for stick Popsicle or pencil or just a twig off of the tree outside preferably one that fell on its own so you don’t hurt the tree
  4. A big enough container a glass jar is best then suspended flake so that it doesn’t touch the sides of the container
  5. Add to jar: 3 tablespoons borax and 1 drop blue food coloring ) or what ever color you like) per 1 cup of boiling water
  6. Hang the snowflake in the jar. Let sit overnight or longer; if you let sit longer you will need to make the solution again each day and place it in a new container to cool then add the snowflake if you put the snow flake into the boiling water your previously made crystals will dissolve in the hot solution. So just wait for the new solution to cool before adding your snowflake to the new container
  7. remove and hang in window and enjoy

>Turned heel and inside

>

heel and sock

I turned the heel last night in class.  Funny thing was that is where she told us to be at the end of last weeks class for the starting of last nights class. I was the only one there.  I didn’t even work on mine all week till yesterday.  The heel has the knit stitches twisted on purpose to add a textured look to the piece in that area.

turned heel

Oh well that is how it goes started two other socks will show them later they are the copies of the ones from my youth.

I am including the inside of the sock because my cousin Ann likes to see the back side of work.  So there you go.

Here is the progress I have made on my Christmas stocking. I did most of this today as I have class tonight and was supposed to have it to this point. Which this morning was at the same place it was when I posted about it last. Not to bad for one days work.
