dale of norway mitts

back on handbackpalm
My oldest daughter is working on her first fair isle project.  She is using acrylic and worsted weight yarn.  The pattern of course asks for wool and sock weight.  Because of these difference she is knitting super tight to stay on gauge.  She has made one mitt thus far and it fits her perfectly.  I have lots of acrylic yarn that people have given me over the years.

Beth’s sontag sweater

sontag
This has been my carry around with me project for the  last few weeks.  It is a Sontag a type of sweater shawl worn during civil war colonial days.  This one is for the character Beth in the play I started making it for Marme but changed my mind to Beth.  It is all hand knit with 100%wool.
sontag back
It has ties and buttons to hold it closed and on.  Keeping the torso and shoulders warm but allowing for ease of movement in the arms.

little bits of this and that Mitts started

detailother side detail

I started to make these mitts yesterday.  I hope to finish them today.  I took a break from the play as my shoulders and arms got hurt the other day shoveling show in our yard.  You know you have a lot of snow in y our yard when you shovel it 5 times in one day .  Then you look at it a few hours later and everywhere you shoveled has a foot of snow again in the yard.  So I shoveled it again the next day and for some reason my right arm went all tingly and numb in some spots like I had pinched a nerve and others had lots of pain like a pulled muscle.

Aunt Marchs Act 1 dress and hat…

IMG_2199

Here is the start of a costume for my oldest daughter to wear as Aunt March in the play "Little Woman".   The production is not till May but for once I can get ahead start and good becasue the costumes are crazy difficult to make.  This dress alone has over 154 cut pieces of fabric that have to be sewn together into a dress. I have lost count after that point but add about 20 to 30 more and that is this dress.
